A Good Start

After a rough couple of days travelling I'm starting to feel like a normal person again after a decent sleep, if you can call waking at 2 in the morning decent. The hostel seems reasonable bearing in mind it was only 18 quid a night.

First impressions of Darwin are mixed; the people are very friendly howwever some of the town looks pretty sketchy. The street where my hostel is located looks like one of the busier sections of town but it does resemble "the strip" that you might find in Malia/Magaluf etc. The tallest buildings in town are the apartment blocks which all look brand new with none of the other structures taller than 2 stories. I realise that seems very odd to say but it gives the place a distinct and fairly weird feel!

The weather here is unbelievable, apparently it hasn't rained for more than a month and there is not a cloud in the sky. I had a quick walk around yesterday but didn't get much further than a few blocks to the bank and the nearby beach.  More exploring is on the cards today but walking any great distance in the heat isn't easy.

At some point I think I will have to join the natives in flip flops, it's too hot for any kind of closed shoes. Fortunately the very limited selection of shops do seem to stock a vast range of the things!

Time for breakfast and a walk I think

Regards,

Rob
